Inventories
of the Rudolf Pöch Collection at the Photographic Collection of the
Vienna Museum of Ethnology
Rudolf Pöch’s presence at the photographic
collection of the Vienna Museum of Ethnology essentially consists of two
comprehensive volumes of vintage prints. In 1908, museum inventories were
enriched by a donation of “450 photographs of ethnic types and houses
in New-Guinea, New South-Wales and Java“, followed by “185
photographs of Bushmen, Bushmen’s engravings, Hottentots, Hereros,
Bastards, the ruins of Zimbabwe etc. in 1912. While the whereabouts of
the former are unknown, nearly all of the latter southern African specimens
still exist and have remained in a good state of conservation. However,
the photographs from Pöch’s journey to India
and Egypt in 1897, which one would assume in the photographic collection
of the Vienna Museum of Ethnology, did not become part of the inventory. |
